Fires and the World of Sustainable Fashion

The number of fires in Latin America grew considerably at the end of 2021 and the beginning of 2022. High temperatures, low rainfall and failures in long-term planning generate dangerous consequences that stand out for the environment and production.

What happens when thousands of hectares are burned down and valuable square kilometres of animals and vegetation are lost? Perhaps we can raise awareness, support causes that help prevent or collaborate with the consequences of fires, but undoubtedly if we live in the city, it is very likely that it is hard for us to imagine how it can affect us in our daily lives.

There are different approaches to the fire issue. The main impact is found in the extension of periods of drought, which directly affect the supply of water for human and animal consumption, causing dry lands and a vegetation with little humidity that is transformed into a flammable material.

Is sustainable production at risk?

The fire issue, like all environmental problems, has different approaches that range from natural causes to decisions within the political sphere. Decisions that previously seemed to be long-term are now basic sustainability strategies.

It is important to promote and encourage sustainable production since it allows considering other development mechanisms, such as the traditional techniques used by local cultures, as applied by Animaná in the cycle of its products.

Animaná garments are produced from animals that are cared for and raised sustainably. The species of Alpaca, Vicuña, Guanaco, Llama and Sheep are distributed in many countries such as southern Peru, Ecuador, Chile and Argentina. Due to the effects of the La Niña phenomenon, these areas are going through a prolonged period of drought, and for this reason, it is extremely important that at the time of design and political decision-making, these characteristics of the environment are part of the strategy of each country.

It is curious that some events seem distant from our daily lives just because they occur several kilometers away. The Climate change issue is directly related to our lifestyle, and this is exactly what it is about. It is about our ability to learn and evolve towards a new way of living in harmony with the environment.
