History of our ECOSOC consultative status at United Nations

“Building back better from the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) while advancing the full implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”.

In 2016, Hecho x Nosotros obtained special consultative status with UN ECOSOC. This was a game-changer achievement as it allowed Hecho x Nosotros access to different high-level international forums to promote its philosophy, raise awareness about the most pressing issues within the fashion industry, and join efforts with other organizations (for example, UNIDO, ECLAC, UNECE, UNCTAD, ITC, among others), businesses, governments and entrepreneurs in order to foster sustainable fashion.

Based on our experience and years of collaborating with different stakeholders within the industry, from artisan communities to governments, we have witnessed how advancing a sustainable fashion agenda can mitigate

poverty, boost local economic development, and positively impact the environment and communities.

Hecho x Nosotros is part of a select group of experts called upon to contribute to a multistakeholder program

held by the UN Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) on transparency and traceability in the garment and footwear sector.

We are also working alongside the International Trade Center (ITC) to develop an inclusive and sustainable value chain of Andean Camelid Fibers by implementing sustainable business practices in sourcing raw materials and strengthening community-based natural resource management.

During the HPF, we concluded that the sustainability problem is rooted in the separation of the human sense of self in the world. We need to re-paradigm leadership from a co-creation perspective, guided by genuine alignment with ethical matters. We’ve asked ourselves, what does it mean to be a good person?

Being the quest of becoming better persons the starting point to rewire our mindsets, we focused on three main concepts that can hold the key to this new paradigm:

Transdisciplinary Co-creative leadership: We need to rethink leadership outside of the separation between leader and follower. Create from sharing, connection, communication, and inclusivity across cultures, genders, disciplines, and ages.

Working on these three concepts guided by internal goods, we may find a path to sustainability, harmony with our planet, nature, environment, and biodiversity.

Bring your values to the table to enable the co-creation of sustainable and regenerative systems that enhance a more conscious consumption within the fashion industry.

Bring your own metaphor!

Hecho x Nosotros and the SDGs

The main focus of our work at the UN is explaining through our projects and initiatives how the fashion and textile industry can serve as an effective platform to advance the Agenda 2030 of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

The fashion industry transversally impacts the SDGs, which is why, since 2015, when the UN set the 2030 Agenda on Sustainable Development, Hecho x Nosotros included many of these goals in its work philosophy, advocacy, and research, focusing on achieving a fairer, healthier, and sustainable society.

While a transition towards a sustainable fashion industry generates a positive impact, either directly or indirectly, on  all 17 of the SDGs, our work is focused mainly on the following objectives:
